ANCHORED IN ANCHORAGE

Day 105 - 2015-08-03

Took the truck to Cal Worthington Ford in Anchorage today to get some maintenance done.  Didn’t get it back today, so we had all day to cool our heels at the campground.  Could be worse, the weather in Anchorage is 78* and crystal clear with a cool breeze blowing.  We sat out all day and read. 12 (12,294).

Day 106 - 2015-08-04

Another beautiful day in Anchorage and we are wasting it waiting on a call back from Cal Worthington Ford.  Still don’t know when or if they will be able to service the truck.  We ran out of water in the holding tank, the spares are in the truck, so I had to make several trips with a 1 gallon container to the potable water spigot to fill enough for the water pump to pick it up.  Good thing we both got showers just before it ran out.  Hope Cal comes through this afternoon so we can dump and refill.

I got an email from Dave L yesterday spreading the fantastic rumor that I would be bringing home samples of the many beers we have tried to share with the Boys Beer Bash.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  First, most of them are on tap, so the only bit of those returning with us will be carried around our waists.  Second, we are limited as to the amount of alcohol we can carry between Canada and the USA, and we are making several border crossings before we make it back into the lower 48 so we will be forced to drink them to keep the inventory down.  Sorry.

This does give me pause, though, to think about how our “Daily Drinkers” have evolved over the trip.  Bettie started with Bud Light, I brought some Yuengling.  I guess our selections for the frig have trended somewhat to the beers that are most readily available and “reasonably” priced.  Bettie has most enjoyed the Alaskan Brewing White Ale (although I think this has a lot to do with the cute Polar Bear on the label).

We both like the Widmer Brothers Hefeweissen (Somewhere in OR) and Alaskan Brewing Amber (Juneau AK).  I have grown fond of the Alaskan Brewing Icy Bay IPA as well as the Deschutes Brewing Mirror Pond IPA (Bend OR).  So, if you want to join us in a toast, pick up one of these and yell it out real loud.  I’m sure we’ll feel the vibe.

Last thoughts on today.  I had to call the service manager at Cal Worthington Ford to get some movement on the truck.  They promise it will be done tomorrow.  I’m going to the dealership in the morning to make my presence known, hopefully that will help keep things moving. We’ll leave Anchorage and head toward Valdez as soon as we can.  It may be a few days before we are back on the grid, so I’ll post this for you and expect to have something more interesting to report next time around.
